Possible causes of occasional backfiring of old BMW Motorbike? I have a '56 BMW motorbike that has started to backfire occasionally on deceleration. This ranges from a moderate pfft to a loud blap. I'm unable to find the cause maybe someone has some suggestions as to the cause. The bike itself is running the best it's ever run except for this.

Is a motorbike shop serving my motorbike ripping me off? It is a BMW K1100LT motorbike? I have a BMW K1100LT motorbike. The exhaust had to be changed and the bike shop took the exuast off and all 8 bolts where the exuast comes out of the side of the engine snapped off. The shop said they would have to be drilled out. The next thing they said they had to take the top half of the engine off to get to them. Did they have to do this or are they just ripping me off or just do not know what they are doing?

BMW Motorbike.....Do Not Know What It Is Called? BMW produced a motorbike sometime ago where it had a roof protecting the rider from the elements. Which motorbike should I buy for touring; BMW or Suzuki? I have been looking around for a second hand BMW F650GS (preferably the 800cc model released in 2008), but haven't found anything within my price range yet, as I can't afford a new one. However, I stumbled across an alternative bike today that I hadn't considered; a Suzuki 650 VStrom. I have found a VStrom that is priced just under £4,000 on an '09 plate, with full touring luggage, taller screen, crash bars, belly pan, and a couple of little extras. This is within my price range and means I don't have to spend extra on getting it ready for touring. So my question is... do I buy the Suzuki now? Or do I put off touring until I can afford the BMW F650 GS? Is it worth waiting to get the GS or am I just being a snob? Any replies would be welcomed... I need some guidance on this one! I already own a BMW F650 CS, and think it's a great city bike, but would be looking at selling it to help fund my new purchase. I can easily clock up over 100 mile a day with work and do not drive a car at all (I do have a separate winter bike), so I will also have to take in to consideration the running costs of whichever bike I go for. Does that change anyone's opinion?

Can you ride a motorbike in Spain on a provisional (125cc) licence? We're looking at a trip to Mallorca to take in some mountains in the low season...only trouble is, we've both got CBTs (plus full car licences), so restricted to 125cc or less (depending on power rating) in this country. We've found bike hire places which can offer us 125s, but also BMW 650s, which sound fun, if potentially suicidal...Can anyone advise on what we can ride? Decreasing power in a motorbike engine. Okay it sounds silly i know.? But i don't wana get to 100kmp/h (60mp/h ish) in 3 seconds. It's a bmw r1200 and a lovely bike. but..... it's to fast. Big police convoy on The Mall - the Queen maybe? other royal? the PM? Walking across the mall yesterday, the traffic was stopped by a police motorbike when 4 range rovers, a jaguar and 2 marked police BMW 5 series whipped past me. Who could it have been? The RRs and jaguar were unmarked, just small lights behind the grill and rear LED lights. The cops on the motorbikes had guns!

Choosing the right motorbike suiting my needs...? Choosing the right motorbike suiting my needs...? My dad is actually interested in getting a motorbike (since hearing my new scooter (motomia espresso 110 - same as the Vuka XL110) which has a fuel efficiency of 50km/litre!!!! He is looking at various good motorbike companies to buy one, since they're very fuel efficient for getting around town. We have looked at all major companies in our area in south africa (BMW, Suzuki, Vuka, Honda) and narrowed the list down to: 1. BMW K1300GT - which is a street tourer(http://www.bmwmotorrad.co.za/Web/Motorcycle/Motorcycle.aspx?bid=124) (notice the indicator lights are within the same casing as stop-lights and headlight, they don't 'poke out' separately. 2. Honda CBR125R9 (http://www.honda.co.za/main.aspx?id=72&pid=48) 3. Honda VX1000 Valadero 4. Honda ST1100 5. Honda VFR800 (http://www.honda.co.za/main.aspx?id=72&pid=51_ Compare the more upright ergonomics of the BMW R110RT to the Yamaha YZ600R. Note the higher rise of the handlebars relative to the seat, the shorter reach to the grips and the forward position of the footpegs. This results in the body weight being transferred to the butt. The full fairing displaces a lot of air thus protecting the rider from the wind blast. This is exactly what my dad is looking for. Specifically, we noticed the indicator lights of some bikes are actually separate from the headlights (front) and stop lights (rear), in that they are not built in the same casing as the head-lights and stop-lights. It's not a big problem, but in the worst case scenario that the bike DOES fall over, the indicator lights that poke out can tend to bend under the immense weight, while the indicator lights contained within the plastic casing within the stoplights or headlights will not tend to get damaged if the bike falls over, or if you were to ride close to a lamp-post. The indicator lights do not “poke out” separately, but instead they are located “within" the stop-light in the same plastic cover. The same is true for the front head-lights. The indicatr lights are built on the same cover as the headlights.The Vuka XL125 has this (check link: www.vukascuta.com). Notice the Honda VFR800 has NO bar supported the RIGHT side of the rear wheel. We want a motorbike where the wheels are supported by TWO axles linked to the suspension, so the front wheel is supported like the rear wheel, in that they are both supported by TWO bars (or pillars) each, on each side. Therefore, with this in mind, my questions are: 1. Which superbike or street-tourer or sport-tourer has the ergonomic seat height that makes it possible to sit upright relative to touching the handlebars, as in a scooter? And does this motorbike have the rear wheels supported by TWO bars? 2. Any suggestions for superbikes AND tourers which have the indicator lights in the same design layout as te Vuka XL125? The indicator lights are fitted within the same casing as the stop-light and headlight, AND which has the rear wheel supported by two bars on each side? (i.e. it must have the combination of Question 1 and Question 2 features). Sorry for the long question and all the finicky things we are looking for in a motorbike. My dad's not really concerned about engine displacement and speed, very interested in a sport-tourer/street-tourer bike, solely because in some circumstances they actually out-perform the superbike with bigger engine displacements, especially in quick acceleration in a hairpin bend. First motorbike.. honda shadow? I'm nearly old enough to get my motorbike L's and im deciding what bike i should get. Kawasaki Ninja or DTrack? I'm about to purchase a new motorbike, not sure about the type, but those 2 fit in my budget: Kawasaki Ninja or DTrack both 250 cc. I bought a BMW 600/7 1978 Motorbike this morning, but can find nothing on the Net about it?? It is Black and Yellow in colour and has 600/7 written on the side. I want to do it up as a hobby but can find nothing on the Internet about it. If you can give me any information i would be very greatful. Thank you in advance Smurf
